Cultural events (excerpt)
The "Porcia Comedy Festival" (15. July-31. August) takes place every year at the renaissance Porcia Castle in Spittal. It is said that the laughing of the audiences can be heard from far across Lake Milstätter See.
The "Medieval Tournaments at Sommeregg Castle" (5.-21. August 2011) are equally renowned. The tournament course and the medieval decorated village take visitors on a journey back in time.
Every year in August, Millstatt celebrates the birthday of Emperor
Franz Joseph. At the "Emperor's Festival" in Millstatt (20. August 2011),
guests can experience a historical procession and concerts. The day ends
with fireworks along Lake Milstätter See. The monastery and collegiate church
of Millstatt also offer a historical setting. During summer, they host the so-called
"Millstatt Music Weeks" (May to October 2011). Guests can look forward to choral and orchestral works interpreted by renowned performers, chamber music, rare musical treats ranging from old to modern as well as jazz concerts and children's performances. Included for the fourth time: "La Guitarra Esencial – the international guitar festival", 3.-7. August 2011.
Tip: "Remaining credible - 500 years of Protestant adventure".
Provincial exhibition 2011 - Fresach: 7. May - 31. October 2011. Fresach is not only the home community of skiing champion Franz Klammer, but also a role model for Protestant faith in Carinthia. In 2011, Fresach is at the epicentre of culture in Carinthia. The provincial exhibition Fresach 2011 recapitulates 500 years of Protestant adventure up to the present day.
By the way: a Protestant pilgrim path leads through Fresach and the neighbouring communities: "The Way of the Book" was the route near the Slowenian border used by bible smugglers in the times of the Counter-Reformation.
